Mark is a copywriter/CD in NYC. All kinds of awesome work on his site, including a mini-campaign within the MasterCard Priceless campaign about a boy and his Zamboni. And check out kissinglink.com for Dentyne. Who have the people you’ve kissed kissed?

Nikki’s anti-facial hair campaign for Gillette cracks up MC. So does her disclaimer above it: “This campaign does not represent the beliefs or ideals of Nikki S. Patel. Any potential employers that have facial hair should not trash her resumé on account of being insulted. We are sure Nikki S. Patel thinks facial hair looks extremely manly and rugged on you, kind sir/ma’am).” Smart move. Especially if she’s eyeing a shop in Boulder or Minneapolis.

I remember seeing David’s GRADMEN idea somewhere (created with fellow Circus grads Deanna Director and Mike Quattrocchi), and thinking it was genius. Doesn’t matter if they got Don Draper to speak at their graduation ceremony or not. They got to spend time with 50 working CDs at agencies most CWs would love to land in right out of school. Winner.

Lots of student books include entrepreneurial ideas these days, which is awesome. What makes Chip’s extra awesome is the number if those ideas he’s gone and executed. You get the feeling he’s one of those creatives who just likes to makes stuff. Those are good creatives to have at your agency.

MC had the opportunity to meet Sara, along with fellow Circus grads Shannon Hollsten and Kristina Spaid, when they were in the Bay Area recently doing agency tours/interviews. Can’t say enough good things about the three of them. Can’t say enough good things about Circus, and how fast they are to respond to opportunities for their students. Tip o’ the hat to Kim Kurtz, Director of Career Services.

Tom is a copywriter/ECD at Brand Content in Boston. You know what’s great about portfolio sites? Versus the old portfolio portfolios? The archive section. If they love it, it’s like extra credit. If they don’t love it, it’s like, so what? It’s the archive section. (Plus, for writers, it means being able to include your fave headlines on one-shots, spec ads, oldies, and so-so art directed pieces.) Be sure to check out Tom’s archive section. Some awesome work in there. Glad we got a chance to see it.

Nick is a copywriter at Connelly Partners in Boston. Tons of great work on his site, but here’s a few don’t misses: Danversbank Branding, Hatch Video 2008, Stowe Mountain Resort, and Mother’s Day Shorts.

Lee is a copywriter at Colle+McVoy in Minneapolis. His site is titled “THINGS I WRITE:” and his work is organized in categories that finish the sentence – “on bus shelters” and “on jumbotrons” and “for osteoarthritic canines.” Makes you want to click on all of them, just to see what’s what. Fun.

Big thanks to CPS grad Steve Stenholt for helping put together Chicago Portfolio School Week on MC. Steve’s off to Ogilvy NYC in a week after being named a finalist in the Big Ad Gig Competition, and landing a freelance contract. Sweet. Go get ’em, Mr. Stenholt.

Here’s a new one. How about a campaign for Toys-R-Us, targeting divorced/joint custody Dads, appealing to the fact that spoiling their kids might get them more face time? MC is still laughing.
October 11th, 2011
Check out Lisa’s campaign for Excedrin, celebrating famous holiday day-afters: May 6th, March 18th, July 5th. Great idea for a campaign. And the giant Wranglers billboard. And the Grain Belt reclining bar stool. Good stuff.
October 10th, 2011
Hello, Chicago Portfolio School Week! MC’s first, and we’re psyched. Kicking it off with The Book of Jake. Can’t tell you how many times MC has heard some version of this: “How come they don’t make copywriters who can write headlines anymore?” To which MC responds, check out Jake’s book. Ton of headlines in there, and more than a few are awesome.

Jason is a senior copywriter at Intermark Group in Birmingham. Question: Where have paper towel gloves been all my life?
October 5th, 2011
Pedro is a copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather Brazil. Check out the second video on his site for the Mega BK Stacker. Anderson Silva, Brazilian mixed martial artist and UFC Middleweight Champion, lip-syncing “Loving You” and just killing it.

Brett is a copywriter/ACD at Colangelo in NYC. Awesome mix of work on his site, from print to banners. Can we talk about banners for a second? The best way to show ’em? We think Brett’s nailed it. Motion screen capture, edited into a little video, and then posted on Vimeo. Easy for everyone. (NOTE: Motion capture software. We like iShowU. You can get it at shinywhitebox.com for $30.)
