Matt Elhardt

cnet

Matt is a freelance writer/CD based in Malibu, California. Holy smokes has he worked everywhere good: Apple, Wieden+Kennedy, Fallon, 180la, Leagas Delaney, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Media Arts Lab and Crispin Porter + Bogusky. At those shops, he’s done killer work for Apple, Nike, Netflix, Subaru, adidas, HP, Coke and CNET—including the classic spot above. So awkward. So genius. One of MC’s all-time faves.

Tim Gillingham

toast

Tim is a freelance copywriter/CD in Minneapolis. Over the past 20 years, he’s worked at shops like Fallon, Carmichael, Arnold, Burnett, and Saatchi (geez), on more awesome accounts than MC can list here. Don’t miss his classic campaigns for Citi Simplicity Card and the VW Beetle, including the above spot “Squares.” Brilliant.

UPDATE: Phil Calvit

chop

Phil is a full-time freelance copywriter in Minneapolis. Since his last post on MC (03.10.14), he’s  added new work to his site and some new shops to his already stupid experience list. From Phil: “There’s no getting around it: I’ve been writing ads and ad-like things for a really long goddamn time. Since 1986, I’ve created stuff for pretty much every conceivable industry, in pretty much every conceivable medium—at, I would contend, a pretty consistently high level. And to think that this kind of experience, and this level of wordsmithing, are available on a freelance basis to one and all…the mind reels.”

UPDATE: Bridget Deenihan

card

Bridget is a Senior Copywriter at Anson-Stoner in Orlando. Since her last post on MC (09.28.11), she’s got a new gig, a new site, a bunch of new work, and cool new side projects. Like her romantic cards rooted in reality (above). Or her films, Hear Something. Or her FREE Hot Poop sticker, which MC is hoping to acquire very soon. Time for an update!

Phil Calvit

united

Phil is a freelance copywriter in Minneapolis. Over the past 20+ years he’s spent time at just about every great shop in Minneapolis, including Barrie D’Rozario Murphy, Carmichael Lynch, Fallon, Hill Holiday, and Leonard Monahan Lubars. He’s also written a bunch of work that makes MC flat-out jealous, like the above spot for United, with VO by Robert Redford. Geez.

Bridget Deenihan

Bridget is a copywriter in Orlando. The first piece in her portfolio is a spot for Nemours Children’s Hospital. The 19th piece is the above ad for North Star Roller Girls. Couldn’t be more different. Love that part of being a CW. This week you’re getting paid to learn everything there is to know about helping kids who need it. Next week, you’re on roller skates.

Tim Blevins

Tim is a senior copywriter at Carmichael Lynch, Colle+McVoy before that. His site is on Behance.net, which you should check out if you haven’t. (Think Facebook, but for creative portfolios.) His stuff rocks. YearbookYourself.com, PaintThatShitGold.com, Winnebago … it’s all good. NOTE: Also worth checking out but not yet up on Tim’s site are MillionBabyCrawl.com and LivingSasquatch.com

Brian Tierney

Brian is a freelance copywriter/CD in Minneapolis. Before going solo he spent time at Fallon (Group CD), CP+B, Carmichael Lynch, and Martin/Williams. Books don’t get much better than this, and I’ll just leave it at that. [Pause] Okay, one more thing. I remember first seeing the above outdoor board with my art director when I was still in SF. We both just freaked out. One of my fave lines EVER. Okay. Done now.

HONORARY: Brock Davis

Brock Davis is an art director/Group CD at Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis, and MC’s first Honorary Copywriter. Check out the top link on the left: msced09. It stands for “Make Something Cool Every Day” which Brock did every day of 2009. Scrolling through it will blow your mind. Killer idea after killer idea.

Kent Carmichael

Kent is a copywriter at CP+B, and was at Carmichael Lynch, element79 and DDB Chicago before that. His site is a classic blog format, everything on one page, which I find super easy to navigate. He’s got a great mix of work in his book, including a slick new site for Diamond Crystal Salt, hilarious Ted Ferguson TV and Real Men of Genius radio for Bud Light, and a campaign for Harley-Davidson featuring Marissa Miller. Enough said.

Gilberto Muiños

Picture-2

Gilberto is a copywriter at AKQA in SF. Before that, he was at Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis, where he wrote four spots in the Jack’s Links “Messin’ With Sasquatch” campaign, with CD Brock Davis, of which I’m a huge fan. (Both of the campaign and Brock.) For four years into the biz, this is a killer portfolio.
