Brendan Howard

Brendan is a copywriter at Fallon in NYC. As one would expect from a Fallon writer’s portfolio, there’s genius and hilarity all over his site, including projects for Cumberland Farms, Hotels.com, RITAS, and a handful of spec projects as well. But the grand prize goes to Brendan’s masterpiece: “Work From Home” set to the tune of “Let It Go” from Frozen, to benefit Broadway. It’s what the world needs now.

Aaron Spratt

luci

Aaron is a freelance copywriter/ACD in the DC area. Since his last post on MC (08.19.13), Aaron’s got an updated site and all kinds of new work including a bunch of projects for good: MPOWERD Luci portable solar light (above), Colon Cancer Alliance “Love Your Butt,” and crazy Car-Free Diet Show. Definitely time for an update.

Clarence Bradley

hot

Clarence is a copywriter/CD currently freelancing at Apple in London. Since his last post on MC way back on 08.09.2010, he’s taken over the world. So many awesome projects in his portfolio. The first three had MC laughing out loud, including a genius campaign for American Standard, a super hot (not!) spot for Planet Fitness (above), and an amazing video for The Green Party in the UK. Awesomeness.

Andy Lewis & Stephen Giem

stephenandy

Andy Lewis is a senior copywriter in San Francisco. He’s work-married to senior art director Stephen Giem and they’ve consummated the relationship with a joint portfolio site that’s hilarious and all love. It links out to their individual sites, which is a great way to do it. The couple is asking for whiskey or gin in lieu of gifts, which you can send directly to MC.

Rich Black

porsche

Rich is a copywriter/ACD at Downtown Partners Chicago. Since his last post on MC five years ago (04.03.10, has it really been that long?), Rich has spent time at Cramer-Krasselt as the lead writer on Porsche—I really hope that means he got to drive one for free—and then moved to Downtown Partners. And took his Cayman with him??

Tim Gillingham

toast

Tim is a freelance copywriter/CD in Minneapolis. Over the past 20 years, he’s worked at shops like Fallon, Carmichael, Arnold, Burnett, and Saatchi (geez), on more awesome accounts than MC can list here. Don’t miss his classic campaigns for Citi Simplicity Card and the VW Beetle, including the above spot “Squares.” Brilliant.

UPDATE: Phil Calvit

chop

Phil is a full-time freelance copywriter in Minneapolis. Since his last post on MC (03.10.14), he’s  added new work to his site and some new shops to his already stupid experience list. From Phil: “There’s no getting around it: I’ve been writing ads and ad-like things for a really long goddamn time. Since 1986, I’ve created stuff for pretty much every conceivable industry, in pretty much every conceivable medium—at, I would contend, a pretty consistently high level. And to think that this kind of experience, and this level of wordsmithing, are available on a freelance basis to one and all…the mind reels.”

Phil Calvit

united

Phil is a freelance copywriter in Minneapolis. Over the past 20+ years he’s spent time at just about every great shop in Minneapolis, including Barrie D’Rozario Murphy, Carmichael Lynch, Fallon, Hill Holiday, and Leonard Monahan Lubars. He’s also written a bunch of work that makes MC flat-out jealous, like the above spot for United, with VO by Robert Redford. Geez.

UPDATE: Mike Ward

Mike is a VP/ACD/Copywriter at Leo Burnett Chicago. He’s got a redesigned site for a portfolio so good it’s scary. (Sorry. Halloween. It’s allowed.) The writing is flat-out amazing. MC recommends clicking through Categories: Print. Or, just go for it and click Categories: All Work. So much awesomeness.

Paula Maki Biondich

Paula is a copywriter/CD at mono in Minneapolis, Fallon before that. She gets co-writing credit, along with Tom Sebanc, for the Holiday Inn campaign I mentioned in yesterday’s post. Just hilarious. The rest of her site is a gold mine: Blu Dot, Harvard, Sesame Street, so smart. But you absolutely have to read the print campaign for Kool-Aid (above). Pee-your-pants writing.

Tom Sebanc

Tom is a copywriter at McKinney in Raleigh-Durham, Fallon before that. Sometimes you go through a site and it’s just like, this person has fun being a copywriter. This person had fun making all of this stuff. Check out the first Holiday Inn spot: Unicycle. I just watched it five times in a row. “What is he a clown or something?” “I hope so.” “Good for him.”

Sally Hogshead

Sally was a copywriter/CD at W+K, Fallon, Martin, her own shop, and then she opened a CP+B office. Since then, she’s done more with her career than 10 average copywriters combined, including writing the popular book Radical Careering (above). What else can I say? She’s Sally Hogshead. Her career is what’s possible.

Rich Black

Rich is a senior copywriter at Mullen in North Carolina. The biz card above is so cool I wanted to feature it in his post, but it’s not really representative of Rich’s work. He’s a headline writer. A good one. That’s so rare these days, I feel like I should put it in all caps. ALERT. AWESOME HEADLINE WRITER.

Brian Tierney

Brian is a freelance copywriter/CD in Minneapolis. Before going solo he spent time at Fallon (Group CD), CP+B, Carmichael Lynch, and Martin/Williams. Books don’t get much better than this, and I’ll just leave it at that. [Pause] Okay, one more thing. I remember first seeing the above outdoor board with my art director when I was still in SF. We both just freaked out. One of my fave lines EVER. Okay. Done now.
