Cole Thompson

Cole is a copywriter/GCD at Flint Group of Agencies in Minneapolis. (He was also a student of MC’s back in the day. MC takes full credit for all of Cole’s success since. Kidding!) He’s got a new site up with a bunch of cool work including projects for Bobcat, Flint, Mortarr, Pioneer, some old ad school stuff (fun to see again), and a special “headlines only” page. Dig it.

Robert Schneider

Robert is a copywriter/ACD formerly at Commonwealth/McCann in Detroit (pre-COVID-19). His portfolio was submitted to MC by Joel Austin, a fellow copywriter located in Dallas. (Big ups!) Huge variety of projects on his site for brands like Chevrolet, NAPA Auto Parts, Key Bank, International, University of Alabama, and more. Joel also recommends Robert’s “Quarantine Check-in Videos” where he interviews fellow comedians and creatives. (Link to video below.) Good times.

Spencer Knowles

trimet

Spencer is a copywriter in Portland, Oregon who recently graduated from Brainco’s online program. His portfolio is a mix of spec and produced work that is both national and so very Portland (in such a good way). Clients (real and spec) include The Washington Post, Tetra Cannabis, Liquid Plumbr, Lipton Tea, 12oz Prophet, and the Portland Trimet (above). Looking forward to seeing what Spencer adds next!

Brainco Copywriter Grads

brainco2

Brainco is a cool little ad school in Hopkins, MN, just outside of Minneapolis. (MC taught a few classes there back in the day.) Honored to wrap up graduation season with eight Brainco copywriter portfolios. Can’t wait to see where they land!

Tommy Crossen

umbrella

Tommy is a junior copywriter at Marc USA in Chicago. His site currently has three agency projects and the rest is student work, which MC loves to see. (What kind of work did Tommy do as a student? How does that translate to his first agency gig?) Tommy is a graduate of Brainco’s online program, and might just be the first agency copywriter who attended a completely online portfolio school. Interesting!

Rich Black

porsche

Rich is a copywriter/ACD at Downtown Partners Chicago. Since his last post on MC five years ago (04.03.10, has it really been that long?), Rich has spent time at Cramer-Krasselt as the lead writer on Porsche—I really hope that means he got to drive one for free—and then moved to Downtown Partners. And took his Cayman with him??

Matthew Bottkol

Matthew is a copywriter/ACD at Dentsu in NYC. His mother, Joan, describes him as follows: “Matthew grew up in a wood clapboard house near downtown Minneapolis. But, these humble beginnings belie his enormous talents. He sang in the Metropolitan Boys Choir and taught himself to play Scott Joplin’s “The Entertainer” on piano. He started wrestling at age seven and was city champion by age twelve. He endured thirteen years of public schooling and got along with just about everyone he ever met. Needless to say, his talents have only multiplied with age. He’d be an invaluable addition to any agency. And I’m not just saying that because I’m his mother. Did I mention he’s also handsome? Feel free to call me if you’d like to talk about Matthew some more. You can get my number from my wonderful son who, by the way, never forgets to call me.”

Paula Maki Biondich

Paula is a copywriter/CD at mono in Minneapolis, Fallon before that. She gets co-writing credit, along with Tom Sebanc, for the Holiday Inn campaign I mentioned in yesterday’s post. Just hilarious. The rest of her site is a gold mine: Blu Dot, Harvard, Sesame Street, so smart. But you absolutely have to read the print campaign for Kool-Aid (above). Pee-your-pants writing.

Rich Black

Rich is a senior copywriter at Mullen in North Carolina. The biz card above is so cool I wanted to feature it in his post, but it’s not really representative of Rich’s work. He’s a headline writer. A good one. That’s so rare these days, I feel like I should put it in all caps. ALERT. AWESOME HEADLINE WRITER.

Casey Brewer

Picture-2

Casey is a copywriter who, in his spare time, founded and runs the creative blog/thing known as Superbeast. In his own words, “Superbeast Creative is a collaboration of advertising creatives, designers, artists, and musicians around the world. Ideally we would like this blog to be a meeting ground to discuss various things that are awesome. Join. Conquer!”
