Since his last post on MC (03.26.12), Jim has moved from Portland to SoCal and added some new work to his site. Time for an update! It should also be noted that Jim is an Oregon grad, as is MC. So, while he’s now living the high life in Hermosa Beach or wherever, his head is firmly on the ground. Or his feet. No, his feet are in the sand. His head, then. On the ground. (Ahem.) Go Ducks!

Chris is a freelance copywriter in San Francisco (and a fellow Oregon Duck — go Ducks!). Since his last post on MC (Nov 21, 2009), he’s got a new site with a ton of new work from killer shops like Pereira & O’Dell, Hub Strategy, AKQA, Eleven … and on and on. Dig it.

Matt is a copywriter/Creative Executive at CAA in Los Angeles. He’s been busy since his last MC post about a year ago, including a stint on the writing team of Eastbound & Down Season 3, stemming from the ad work he did for the show. (Awesome.) Don’t miss his Fake Craigslist Ads, especially the last one, “I don’t like the baby we adopted (Beverly Hills)” and his subsequent visit from non-fake police detectives. Hilarious.

Nick shares a couple of campaigns with Niki Naboulsi (featured Tuesday), as happens when you’re in school, sharing resources, collaborating, etc. MC likes the teamwork. Anyway, also on Nick’s site be sure to check out: NASA, Fantasy Trainwrecks, and U of O Advertising. Love to see all of the real-life books being made and shot for portfolios. Love to see print alive and well, in any form. Very cool.

So interesting to see the trends running through CW portfolio sites at different schools. From Oregon, lots of poetry and beautiful video. (Not unexpected, with the W+K influence.) As an Oregon alum, I love Tyler’s time-lapse piece “Miniature Eugene.” Ah, Eugene.

Oregon is Oregon, and you know when you go through an Oregon site there’s going to be some stuff that’s just out. Because that’s how Ducks do it. You also know you’re going to find stuff that’s just fun. Like Niki’s “Sweaty Little Secrets” campaign for Champion sweatpants. Or a page of pics of Oregon students, and when you hover over them, they laugh. Good times.

What do you want to see on a graduating copywriter’s site (in addition to great writing)? How far from “five campaigns plus a video” can they go? What’s relevant and what’s not? Physical artifacts of their dreams? Unsolicited signs out in the wild? Do those count? MC thinks yes.

Jim is a copywriter/CD in Portland and a fellow Oregon Duck (Go Ducks!). Love the way he presents digital on his site. You can click around and explore it for yourself, or you can watch a killer highlight reel set to the Chemical Brothers in two and a half minutes. Dig it.

Bob is a copywriter/CD in Boulder and a fellow Duck (go Ducks!). In his Outdoor section, he has a campaign for the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame that features “the longest copy outdoor ads in American advertising.” About 10,500 words each. That’s what we like to see on MC. Only one complaint. Wish we could zoom in to read all of those beautiful words.

MC is two years old this month. To celebrate, I’m doing something I’ve never done before. I’m posting my own site. Which is both exciting and terrifying. To everyone who’s sent a link to MC over the past two years, the CWs, friends of CWs, schools, students, CDs, ADs, spouses, and that one Mom, thank you. It’s been a blast. Let’s keep it going.

Matt is a freelance copywriter in Los Angeles. His link was sent in by friend of MC, Karyn Campbell (at IdeaLists). The work on his site made me shoot coffee out my nose.

Kevin is a senior copywriter at JWT in NYC. What a fun mix of clients in his book: Olympics, Jones Soda, Nike, Napa Valley Vineyards, Seattle Art Museum, Mud Truck, and the resurrection of the one-and-only Raaaaanieeeeerrrrrrr Beeeeeerrrrr.

Niels is a senior copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather NY. (He’s also a fellow Oregon Duck. Go Ducks!) Lots of cool stuff on his site, including work for IBM, UN Climate Change Conference, US Open, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy. By the way – how great does Vimeo HD video look? Now that you can watch Vimeo on iPhone, it may be time to officially crown it as the best option for portfolios.

Will is a senior copywriter at Razorfish in Portland. How much does MC love the Pacific Northwest? W+K, Razorfish, Publicis, Creature, Cole & Weber, WongDoody, Wexley School For Girls … awesome. Plus, U of Oregon (Ducks!). So much great advertising. And the best people anywhere.

Evan is Chief Creative Officer of Victors & Spoils, before that copywriter/CD/VP at CP+B. Probably don’t need to write more than that, do I? Absolutely, positively stellar.
