Chris Vandersall

cookies

Chris is a junior copywriter at GSD&M in Austin. The first project in his portfolio is an adorbs holiday spot for Walgreens called “Cookies For Santa.” MC’s favorite part? The minivan cranking a spinout into its parking space out front of a Walgreens. Which means they had to hire a professional stunt driver to do that. Which is just rad.

Intern Team Wanted: R/GA, Austin

rgaaustin

Chris Cima, Creative Director at R/GA in Austin, is looking for an intern creative team. From Chris: “R/GA Austin is on the hunt for an intern creative team. We’re looking for both a writer and designer/art director. We’re willing to build a team from two solo badasses or if we find a pre-built team that has a great book, even better. The plan is to make this team an active part of our creative department and get them on real projects to see what they can do with enough guidance to keep their heads from exploding.” Love it. Cesar Vallejo

site

Cesar is a new copywriter from Orlando, now in Austin. One of the fun things about MC, in addition to seeing great work from great copywriters, is checking out how that work is presented. Cesar’s site is a WordPress template (from themeforest) that he spent some serious time customizing (with the help of YouTube tutorials). Looks fantastic.

U of Texas at Austin Week 2014 – Sarah Turner

WaffleHouse_Print2

Sarah has her Bachelor’s in English: Creative Writing from The University of North Texas and now has a Masters in Advertising from the University of Texas. (Big ups!) From her About page: “I craft blogs, movie reviews, news articles, ad copy, short stories, and scribbles of absolute nothings on slips of paper I leave scattered across my apartment. I enjoy Hemingway, Hitchcock, and a band called Beirut. I believe in the Oxford Comma. And the occasional sentence fragment.” High-five on the Oxford Comma. And the sentence fragment.

UPDATE: Chad Rea

meeting

Chad is a copywriter/CD/entrepreneur/performer in Austin. Since his last post on MC (02.10.10), he’s got a ton of new work up on his site, launched like eight new companies, written and performed sketch comedy, done a bunch of voiceover work, and made some awesome silkscreen posters (including “Let’s Have a Meeting about a Meeting” above). MC gets tired just trying to sum it all up in one post. Tired, and inspired. Love it. This is what being a CW/idea factory is all about.

CWs Wanted: SandersWingo

Shanteka Sigers, SVP/ECD at SandersWingo in Austin (and friend of MC), is looking for copywriters. From Shanteka: “SandersWingo was founded by David Sanders, a copywriter. He once got a 92-second radio spot on the air. He went on daily two-hour hikes and ate whole grains in the ’80s. Most people ate cocaine for breakfast in the ’80s. And most importantly, David Sanders taught that our job is to make things happen right now. I need copywriters in Austin and El Paso. All levels. You’ll work on big brands like AT&T, Burger King and MINI. You’ll work on small brands like Run For The Water, El Paso Electric and the District Attorney of El Paso. The DA let us create an award-winning domestic violence brochure hidden inside a lipstick case, and feng shui his waiting area. I’m looking for some swashbuckling, enterprising, David Sanders-esque copywriters that want to make things happen. Healthy diet optional.” Interested? Contact Shanketa at the address below.

James Schmidtke

James is a junior copywriter/visual artist in Austin looking for his first CW gig. He went to school in L.A. for TV Production/New Media/Advertising at Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication. Then studied copywriting and interactive at The Book Shop. Clicking through this site, it’s 90% visual arts and 10% copywriting. Thing is, so many shops/companies are looking to add in-house video capability, someone out there might think that’s just fine.

Sarah Weigl

Sarah is a copywriter at Sanders/Wingo in Austin. (Her site was submitted by Nikki Lott at Integer. High-five, Nikki.) One of the things MC enjoys most, going through a CW’s portfolio, is seeing their personality come through the work. Spend 30 seconds on Sarah’s site, and you see it. Bad-ass. Also, be sure to check out her rad blog Badder Homes & Gardens, with Nikki and Krista Hogg. Awesome.

Justin Clemens

Justin is a senior copywriter at T3 in Austin. MC predicts that someday, Austin will be the advertising equivalent of Minneapolis in the south. Got the music. Got the culture. Got the Longhorns. Got Justin Clemens, writing for Dell, WSJ, U of Texas, Tidy Cats, and (most importantly) his nephew Owen’s Austin Addy-winning birth announcement.

Haley Gardner

Haley is a new copywriter at GSD&M, fresh out of Creative Circus (fantastic first gig). Which means that we get to see what kind of student work a shop like GSD&M is digging right now. Like Haley’s Two Men and a Truck campaign. Maybe it’s due to the number of moves MC has gone through over the past few years (lots), but love that one. Especially the wallscape. So on the money.

Adrian Alexander

Adrian is one half of an Austin freelance creative team with AD Rochelle Raiss. Before that he did time at GSD&M and CP+B, with a stint in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign sandwiched between the two. Adrian and Rochelle call themselves Third Culture Kidz, which they describe on their site as “someone who, as a child, has spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than his or her own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture, into a third culture.”
