Alan Snider

cme

Alan is a senior copywriter at Avenue in Chicago and a student at Second City Training Center. If MC could start MC over, there’d be a tag for copywriters who’ve had experience with Second City—and it would probably be one of the more popular tags. So many great copywriters have stand-up and comedy writing experience, which makes so much sense.

Elliot Nordstrom

rich

Elliot is a copywriter at Sukle Advertising & Design in Denver. His site was submitted to MC by art director Allie Nordstrom, who also happens to be his wife (rad, big ups, Allie!). Don’t miss his campaign for Man Therapy, featuring Dr. Rich Mahogany, which aims to put an end to the stigma of men and mental health. The name alone is reason enough to watch. Nice.

Brian Cleary

largeidea-4f603a6e1025bc6

Brian is a freelance senior copywriter in Los Angeles. Lots of web and print work on his Krop site, including several visual print campaigns for Yokohama tires. MC has received a bunch of emails lately asking the best way to find freelance writers based on location (including Los Angeles). All writers on MC are tagged with their location at the time of their post. So, all you have to do is scroll down the sidebar to the right until you reach LOCATION. Then find the city or country you’re looking for and click on it. Those writers will appear as their own page. That easy!

UPDATE: Adam Gothelf

santa

Adam is a San Francisco native at RPA in Los Angeles. Since his last post on MC (03.16.11), just after graduating from Miami Ad School in NYC, he’s done work for great shops all over the country and got a brand new portfolio to show for it. Including his 2013 holiday film for Honda, Santa’s New Sleigh. Santa drives a Honda!

Scott Hanson

car

Scott is a senior copywriter at Hudson Rouge in NYC. Lots of great automotive projects on his site including Volkswagen, Hyundai and Lincoln (above). Also, a hilariously sad campaign for the NDRC, featuring faux children’s book covers reminding kids and their parents of the dangers of climate change, like “None Fish Few Fish Dead Fish Who Fish.” Hello, nightmares!!!

Cesar Vallejo

site

Cesar is a new copywriter from Orlando, now in Austin. One of the fun things about MC, in addition to seeing great work from great copywriters, is checking out how that work is presented. Cesar’s site is a WordPress template (from themeforest) that he spent some serious time customizing (with the help of YouTube tutorials). Looks fantastic.

Nick Speno

wishing

Nick is a senior copywriter at H&L Partners in St. Louis. Lots of writing for McDonald’s and Missouri tourism on his site, including the above TV campaign of super slow-mo wishes. Speaking of slow-mo, don’t miss Nick getting pelted with water balloons in his Contact & Experience page. Good times.

Kevin Miles

angel

Kevin is a copywriter/CD in North Carolina. His site is organized by media (rather than project or client), and there’s plenty of good stuff represented in each. Below links to his work, he’s also got a Brand Experience page that’s simply a logo visualization of brands he’s worked on. He’s also got a nice Buzz section that features press about his work. Very cool.

UPDATE: James Maravetz & Vlad Ivangorodsky

youcan

Since their last posts on MC, James Maravetz (01.28.13) and Vlad Ivangorodsky (honorary AD 10.15.12) have combined their insane portfolios into one super insane portfolio site. MC found it impossible to choose which project to feature, there’s so much killer work, but what’s above seemed appropriate. In athletics and creative, you can’t until you can.

Greg Kissler

paper

Greg is a new copywriter at Merkley+Partners in NYC, after graduating from Miami Ad School Brooklyn in June. Tip ‘o the Hat to Greg for pure fearlessness, as in the above video for Scotch Magic Tape. From Greg: “Have you ever torn paper on purpose? Torn it slowly, confidently and unapologetically? It’s kinda hot (especially with eye contact).”

David Locascio

David is a copywriter/CD in Atlanta. Don’t miss his social campaign for RaceTrac (convenience stores and gas stations in the southern United States) around their “endless bevy of fountain drinks,” for which David got to make up fictitious soda concoctions and name them—the ultimate dream job of every 13-year-old boy who ever lived in the southern United States. Good times.

Tim Donakowski

Tim is a copywriter in Chicago, having recently returned to The Windy City after four years in NYC. Click on his Trojan project link, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and you’ll find a two-minute video “The History of Getting It On.” It’s no joke. It’s actually the history of condoms in the modern world. (Fun.) These are the things we get paid to do, my friends. Dig it.

Senior Writer Wanted: Avanti Press, Detroit

RED-A

Avanti Press in Detroit is on the hunt for a Senior Writer, and they’ve sent MC the king of all job posts. (Love it!) From Avanti:

SO YOU WRITE AWARD-WINNING COPY…BUT WHAT’S YOUR CHARACTER LIKE?

In a neighborhood theatre, Anytown, USA, you step up to the box office and buy a ticket to be entertained. In return, you want a stunning plot that impresses and connects. Brilliant scenes that pierce the eye, and then the heart. Add perfectly-cast characters and quick-witted dialogue, and you’ve got something to write home about!

Funny as it seems, we think that a greeting card from Avanti Press should thrill its audience in the very same way. Like big screen entertainment, only smaller.

That’s why we create every single Avanti Greeting to be memorable and unique; an instant hit. Delivering a colorful surprise that’s funny in its own write…a bit like “improv in print.” And starring talented “characters” that are openly laughable, and in turn, shared in 30 countries worldwide.

ONE MISSION. PRESS AHEAD.

Today, we strive to make our products even more impactful and entertaining. Starring Dolby-like resonance. Highest definition graphics. Great visual concepts and payoff prose that know precisely how to get the biggest laugh. (No matter the audience; rated “Hilarious” for all ages.)

Most important, we look for passionate people who literally thrive on having the last laugh…especially here, in a comeback city like Detroit. Where Avanti Press was born and has remained jazzed since 1980.

SENIOR WRITER WANTED: FUNNY CHARACTER, A MUST.

To star in our role of Senior Writer, you must exhibit:

  • A tremendous sense of humor; funny, beyond words
  • A non-stop conceptual and curious mind
  • Individual leadership skills, while remaining committed to our spirit of community and collaboration
  • Tenacity in writing/editing; able to turn mediocre into magic
  • The ability to thrive by way of corporate leeway
  • Unexpected and untapped skills; please surprise us
  • The kind of experience, thinking and smarts that actually make us nervous (We bet big on great odds.)

AUDITIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR SENIOR WRITER.

Highly experienced and exceptional copywriters only.

  1. Describe in 998 characters or less why you should take the lead role in maintaining our brand voice over multiple product lines, licensing, sales, web, and all other channels (beyond Avanti greeting cards.)
  2. Include your resume, and a link to your portfolio (or 3 samples of your Biggest Hits.)
  3. Take the time and effort to follow the guidelines above.
  4. E-mail this information to us only at avanticreative@me.com

OH, AND NO DIRECT CALLS OR CONTACT, PLEASE.

If we like your character, let’s see what plays out.

AVANTI PRESS.  LIKE BIG-SCREEN ENTERTAINMENT, ONLY SMALLER.

Andrew Lewis

belts

Andrew is a freelance copywriter who left San Francisco to become an International Man of Leisure/Freelance Copywriter. He now resides in Prague, where he created the above campaign for Two Tales Beer—aiming to save the global economy (and the world) by belting America’s baggy pants, one beer at a time. Sounds crazy, right? Until you discover that Joe Satriani re-tweeted the campaign. Time to expand that title to International Man of Leisure/Freelance Copywriter/Evil Genius.
