Christian is a sr copywriter in San Diego. (MC’s first San Diego site. Hello, SD!) Interesting to compare freelance and full-time CW sites. How do we balance “hello, I’m an artist” with “hello, I’m for hire”?

David is a senior copywriter at HUGE in NYC. His site navs horizontally, which for some reason makes everything in it seem more important. Why is that? He’s got a tight portfolio, which you can do when it’s this strong. Just enough to make ’em say, “We gotta call this guy.”

Gene is a senior copywriter/ACD at Anson-Stoner in Orlando. He’s got a shiny new Cargo site featuring a stick figure intro film that’s genius. Crazy coincidence: Jack Thoroughbred happens to be the name of my moose, too. Heh-heh.

James is a new copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather Chicago, after recently graduating from Chicago Portfolio School. MC loves to see what got who hired where. So, what did the honchos at O&M dig in Mr. Kinney’s book? We’re guessing his tagline/campaign for 9Lives, to start. “Live like it’s your 8th.” Yes.

Nick is an American copywriter at Clemenger BBDO in Australia. Don’t misses: student Food Network iPad idea – sliding the iPad under a clear cutting board (want it), Nationwide Insurance vid, and on his About page, Nick’s music.

Jeremy is a West Coast freelance copywriter. He shares a site with NYC-based AD Marcio Kelmanson. Every once in a while, MC finds a site that just kicks our collective ass. This is one of those. The ideas are stellar. The writing is awesome. The art direction is beautiful.

Dan is a senior copywriter at Leo Burnett Chicago. If you ever want to know anything about Kellogg’s Raisin Bran Crunch, Dan is your guy. Check out his print campaign for Econo Lodge. One of the best things a writer can do for a brand is help it be honestly self-depricating. Nice.

Todd is a copywriter/acd/vp at RPA in LA. His book is loaded with awesome work for Honda–one of MC’s secret fave car brands. Todd is an alum of Second City and Upright Citizens Brigade, yet again proving MC’s theory that comedians, drummers and surfers make fabulous copywriters. Maybe we should add categories for those in the sidebar. Hmm.

Victoria is a junior copywriter in Athens, Greece. In addition to her Cargo portfolio, she’s put together something she calls the The Walking Portfolio. You walk through her portfolio on Vimeo, Flickr, WordPress, Tumblr, and we’ll let you discover the rest for yourself. NOTE: After viewing a piece of her portfolio, look for a link to the next one below it. (Took MC a minute to figure out.) Cool idea.

Upon graduating from MAS, Nate took a summer internship at Fallon in Minneapolis. That’s a good time of year to take an internship in Minneapolis. Check out URBAN PACMAN. Gets MC just a smidge excited about the idea of exercise. Just a smidge.

One of the things Miami Ad School does consistently awesome is help students create books that are exactly what the industry needs right now. Will’s site and the work in it are a great example of that. Digital, social, interactive, idea and consumer-centric. No surprise he’s already landed a gig at RGA.
Portfolio: cargocollective.com/willbinder
Max shares his site with creative partner Max Gebhardt. Together, they are Max and Max, “an interactive / conceptual creative team, half swedish, half german.” Their site is beautiful. Love the screened back images with type on rollover. Tasty.
Portfolio: max-and-max.com
A big thanks to Brian Alexander for helping to organize Miami Ad School Week on MC. It’s awesome seeing what the kids bring to the biz every year, and a big part of that is MAS. Tip ‘o the Hat.

Joel is a junior copywriter at TracyLocke in Dallas. First job, brand new, good times. MC always loves seeing what student books land what students where. Also love seeing a CW’s vacation photos, and Joel’s site features an excellent selection.

Kathleen is a copywriter/ACD at DDB Chicago. Someday, MC is going to move to Chicago just to see what a real TV commercial budget feels like. We’re guessing pretty nice. Great to see some Chicago sites starting to come MC’s way.

Chris is a senior copywriter at FAME, and splits time between Minneapolis and Chicago. Don’t misses: FAME Liquor Lounge, Crowdsourcing My Condo (awesome) and Groupon (love it).
Portfolio: thechrisyocum.com
Michael is an American copywriter, raised in Minnesota, schooled in Reno, now freelancing in Portugal, but most of the work on his site was done in Warsaw in a language Michael can barely speak. What does that look like? Here’s your chance to find out.

Larry is a copywriter/CD at BBDO NY, after four years at GS&P and three years at CP+B. Every once in a while, MC posts a site that just flat-out makes us jealous. This would be one of those.
Portfolio: cargocollective.com/larrycorwin
Shawn is a copywriter/CD at Grey in NYC. His site features an animated Shawn pulling portfolio categories out of his head, snoozing and falling out of his chair. Even though MC is a big fan of Cargo, it’s refreshing to see a site made for the writer whose name’s on the door. (Or URL.) Dig it.
Portfolio: shawncouzens.com
Geoff is a copywriter/CD/VP at DDB in Chicago. His portfolio is sick, especially the writing. And that includes work for clients one might not consider “sick” creative opportunities. Just goes to show. Tip ‘o the hat, Mr. McCartney.

Going through the Circus CW grad books, you notice a couple of things. One, they were a tight group. Lots of references to each other in bios and photos of each other in their work. Lots of collaboration. Two, it seems like half of them were in rock bands or pseudo rock bands. Mike Gallucci was 1/2 of Soft Serve, one-hit wonder band (with fellow Circus CW grad Matt Vitou). Make sure you check that out. Also, don’t miss his crazy video for Hamilton Beach Blenders, and his Yelp reviews for himself.
Portfolio: cargocollective.com/mikegallucci
Mike is an intern at Strawberry Frog in NYC. Not only is he a talented writer, but check out his photo section. Lots of portfolios out there with photography as bonus sections, but Mike’s is great. Also check out Amplify: The Project. Awesome.
Portfolio: mikehaftel.com
The first thing you’ll notice about Blake’s portfolio site is Blake. Lots of Blake. Funny. Make sure you check out his campaign for McDonald’s, in which Ronald McDonald takes off the face paint and reveals himself as just Ron. A guy like you and me, but with a clown wig.
Portfolio: blakesolomon.com
Daniel is a Peruvian copywriter at Y&R Paris. For those of us who came up in the industry when the TV commercial was God, the past 10 years have been painful. Graphic design and Flash banners. Blah. But now, finally, we’re coming full circle. Video has caught up to the Internet, and visa versa, and we’re shooting again. So, when you see a portfolio like Daniel’s with a Short Films section, you don’t think of it as extra – you think great! The kid knows how to make a video. Now go tell Craft Services that we want those little smoothies with the vitamin C booster. Pronto.
Portfolio: daniellobaton.com
Alexandre is a copywriter/CD at Grey Brasil. He’s got a brand new site on Wix (new to MC, far as we know) that’s beautiful. Some awesome new work, too.
Portfolio: wix.com/scaff21/work
Tom is a copywriter/CD in Chicago. His portfolio is just awesome, but his print section (“READ”) is especially sick: Altoids, Porsche, Gatorade, Bahamas. Yes, please.
Portfolio: hiretomwilson.com
Yama is a copywriter at DGWB in Los Angeles. Don’t misses: Words of Wetzel’s, 12 Days of In-N-Out, and Banks Hate You.
