Zoey Preston

Zoey is a senior copywriter at Godfrey Dadich Partners in San Francisco. She’s also the daughter of Chris Preston, one of the OG copywriter/CD/agency owners (Preston Spire) in Minneapolis, who gainfully employed MC back in the day (thanks again, Chris!).

But back to Zoey. Her portfolio features projects for InterSystems, Change the Ref, Dodge Ram Electric, Lyra Health, Warrior Dog Rescue, The YMCA, and Big Sky, MT. There’s beautiful writing throughout, including smart headlines for Dodge and Warrior Dog Rescue, awesome scripts for InterSystems and Lyra, poetry for BigSky, and even some opera singing for the YMCA (yes, that’s Zoey doing the singing). Dig it.

Manas is a copywriter/ACD at The BAM Connection in NYC. His portfolio features projects for a cool variety of brands like Rohto (eye drops), For 21 (cannabis medicine), Birds Eye (veggies), The No More, and Oxy Acne Care (“Zitcoms” ha-ha).

Aaron Judah

Aaron is a senior copywriter at Doner in Detroit, before that he spent time at Anomaly and BBDO NY. His portfolio features projects for Don Julio, Meijer, The UPS Store, Dream Charter Schools, Johnnie Walker, and Ally Bank.

Don’t miss his beautiful, cinematic videos for Alma Miel by Don Julio. From Aaron: “For the global launch of Don Julio’s luxury joven tequila, Alma Miel, we viewed the new Por Amor world through a lens of magical realism, and populated it with wildly imaginative scenes: mystical cenotes, lovelorn luchadores, and mariacheño superstar Christian Nodal sipping slow. It’s a sun-drenched spot of soul of seduction.” Love it.

Brandon Johnson

Brandon is a copywriter/CD in Traverse City, Michigan. He’s coming off of 15 years at Hagerty, a classic car insurance company and automotive lifestyle brand where he started as a copywriter and ended up as a creative director. Now on the hunt for the next big thing.

So many cool spots on Brandon’s site, including his “Toy Cars” campaign, which is the dream campaign of any kid who spent any time obsessing over Hot Wheels and Matchbox. Including yours truly, of course.

Dig it. Can’t wait to see where Brandon lands!

Lawrence O’Toole

Lawrence is a copywriter/creative director at Full Contact in Boston. His last post on MC was almost 10 years ago (back on 10.12.2015), so he’s wayyy overdue for an update.

Recently, Lawrence took a mobile-first, social-first approach to his portfolio, putting it on Instagram rather than a traditional portfolio site platform. From Lawrence: “I love how easy it is to flip through a carousel and have everything auto play.” Ditto!

Don’t miss Lawrence’s first Super Bowl spot, featuring Christian McCaffrey and Olivia Culpo, slinging coffee with Nikki Glaser and Michael Rapaport, and the escape room he made out of a tiny house to promote awareness for Alzheimer’s. Dig it.

Matt is an experienced copywriter/CD in the San Francisco Bay Area (and a long-time pal of MC, and a fellow Oregon Duck). Over the years, he’s done tons of B2C and B2B projects in all media on both the agency side (small/med/large shops) and the client side. Matt’s on the hunt for a CD position either place, in-person or remote, ideally full-time (but happy to freelance as well). Don’t miss his new national branding TV campaign for Freedom Mortgage (above), their first.

Matt’s one of the good guys—can’t wait to see where he lands!

UPDATE: Rob Hall

Rob is a copywriter/ACD at FP7 McCann in Dubai, UAE. His site features projects for brands like Arla, Mastercard, TCS, Rolex, Hardee’s, Lux, McDonald’s, Volkswagen, and STA. Don’t miss “Recipe for Change” for Puck (Gold, Silver, Bronze Lion 2025), a campaign that licensed displaced Lebanese mothers’ recipes to restaurants abroad. Or “Sponsored Balls” for Testicular Cancer Society (Bronze Lion 2025), where CD Leganés put the charity’s logo on their shorts against FC Barcelona.

Also from Rob’s bio: Rob’s 12+ years of international experience spans three countries and creative cultures. At BBL/P London, he led creative on Rolex, doubling the brand’s social following to over 20 million. At M&C Saatchi Berlin, he sold a campaign on his first day there. That thrill never faded. His work has picked up over 30 international awards across Cannes Lions, Dubai Lynx Grand Prix, One Show, Clios, and New York Festivals. He specializes in ideas that solve real problems, not just make more noise. And he’s still chasing the next idea that moves the needle.

Wanted: Copy Manager, Walmart Creative Studio

Travis Robertson (Group Director, Social Creative, Experiences & Copywriting, Walmart Creative Studio) is on the hunt for a “great conceptual powerhouse of a writer” to join their team—in any one of their four hubs: LA, SF, NY or Bentonville, AR. MC used to work with Mr. Robertson at Target back in the day and can attest to the fact that Travis knows how to pull together a killer team. This is a great opportunity!

Austin Hohiemer

Austin is a copywriter/front end developer at Bullhorn in Lexington, Kentucky. From his site: “Before I was either of those things, I was a decent touring musician, a mediocre barista, and a pretty bad peach seller. Turns out I’m allergic to peaches anyway.” Ha! You can tell that Austin is a front end developer as soon as you land on his site—super cool semi-OCD-ish organization of the projects on his Work page, including tags for Copywriting, Concept, Brand Voice, Naming, and Web Development. Most of projects are for regional brands like Gates Auto Family, Stockton Mortgage, Taco Tico, Peoples Exchange Bank, and Screamin’ Mimi’s. Always a treat to see work from other parts of the country. Dig it.

Ciaran Watkins

Ciaran is a senior copywriter at VML Health in Manchester, UK, previously at Havas and TBWA. One of the best things about MC is getting to see portfolios from all parts of the world and all kinds of product categories. Ciaran’s portfolio is part-pharma, part-consumer and features campaigns for everything from managing MS during the pandemic to getting “That New Toy Feeling” for Smyths Toys Superstores. Toward the end of his portfolio there’s a password-protected project (you’ll need to email him to get the password)—and a catch-all “other stuff I’m proud of” page.

Nick Rudie

Nick is a freelance copywriter/CD in Minneapolis. Lots of inspiring lifestyle and outdoor projects on his site for brands like Supra Boats, Jack Link’s, CLIF Bar, Moomba Boats, Polaris, Catch Co., and Bauer Hockey (above). Makes MC want to get out there this weekend and do something active. Or, write a campaign about other people getting out there and doing something active. (Hmm.) Dig it!

Mick DiMaria

Mick is a freelance copywriter/CD in Los Angeles. Since his last post on MC (back on 12.15.10), he’s added a ton of projects to his site—so many, it takes two pages of thumbnails to get to them all. On the second page of projects, don’t miss “Heart Beats,” part of a branded content campaign he did with SoulPancake/Participant for Denny’s restaurants called “Denny’s Reconnection Stories.” Great story and great storytelling. Time for an update!

Portfolio: cargocollective.com/mickdimaria

Julia is a freelance senior copywriter/CD in Berlin. (Hello, Berlin!) All kinds of beautiful storytelling on her site for brands like Google, eBay, MINI, Spotify, and more. His “Too Easy” campaign shows how “Samsung’s Smart TV can do just about anything from connecting with your smart devices to customizing its built-in features.” Like cancelling your kid’s band practice. Daaaaaad.

Luke Somasundram

Luke is a copywriter based in Singapore. (Love getting to feature international portfolios on MC.) Directly from Luke’s site: “With brilliant collaborators, Luke has eaten virtual fruits, made cartoons, faked history, sold insurance with a horror film, created a game about himself as an upset old man, and invented a puffer jacket with a beer-powered cooling system. When he’s not working, Luke performs improv comedy. He’s done shows in Shanghai, Manila, Bengaluru, and all over Singapore. One time he wrapped himself in tinfoil for a show about time travel for Singapore’s National Gallery. They haven’t contacted him since.” Ha!
