Creative Circus | Summer 2013

Ladies and gentlemen, MC is honored to present the portfolio sites of seven Summer 2013 Creative Circus graduating copywriters (in alphabetical order):

Keith Atzman – keithatzman.com

Caroline Cappelli – carolinecappelli.com

Scott Chalkley – scottchalkley.com

John Huddleston – justanotherjohn.com

Jameson Rossi – jamesonrossi.com

Lauren Wood – laurenwoodwrites.com

Gretchen Zachan – gretchenzachan.com

Elizabeth King

Elizabeth is a senior copywriter at Kirshenbaum NYC. She’s got a ton of killer stuff for BMW up on her site, plus De Beers, Starz, Smirnoff, Wendy’s, awesome. From her Elizabeth King • Copywriter page: “Advertising is not for those who like things winded. Long copy is dead. We’re no longer writers, we’re thinkers, right?” Hmm, wonders MC. Writers = thinkers. Maybe there just aren’t any readers left?

UPDATE: Mike Ward

Mike is a VP/ACD/Copywriter at Leo Burnett Chicago. He’s got a redesigned site for a portfolio so good it’s scary. (Sorry. Halloween. It’s allowed.) The writing is flat-out amazing. MC recommends clicking through Categories: Print. Or, just go for it and click Categories: All Work. So much awesomeness.

Benjamin Santoriello

Ben is a recent grad from Creative Circus, looking for his first CW gig. Tell you one thing, MC was so excited to click through Ben’s campaign for Heinz Manup and discover that there is a product out there that actually combines ketchup and mayo, one of the best condiment combos on Earth. That is, until MC Googled it, and realized it was just a stroke of ad school genius. Dang! Was already thinking about hitting Costco for the 112 oz tub. Ah, well. Tip ‘o the Hat, Mr. Santoriello.

Creative Circus Fall 2012

Rick Morrison, graduating Circus CW, checks in with a new site featuring his entire graduating class—the biggest in Circus history. (Congrats!) From Rick: “We wanted to pay homage to our class–the biggest in school history–as well as show off everyone’s individuality. So we created Creative Circus High School 2012, a fun, semi-ridiculous website for posterity and to introduce our class to all of you in the real world. Click the heads to hear our catch phrases and click names below for personal sites.”

Haley Gardner

Haley is a new copywriter at GSD&M, fresh out of Creative Circus (fantastic first gig). Which means that we get to see what kind of student work a shop like GSD&M is digging right now. Like Haley’s Two Men and a Truck campaign. Maybe it’s due to the number of moves MC has gone through over the past few years (lots), but love that one. Especially the wallscape. So on the money.

Creative Circus | Summer 2012

Ladies and gentlemen, MC is honored to present the portfolio sites of five Summer 2012 Creative Circus graduating copywriters (in alphabetical order):

Sarah Anderson (now at Goodby in SF) – sarahaanderson.com

Hall Carey – hallcarey.com

Grant Cohen – grantcohenhere.com

David Dulock (now at Digitas Atlanta) – cargocollective.com/daviddulock

Brent Goldman (interning at firstborn) – brent-goldman.com

Creative Circus | Summer 2012 – Sarah Anderson

MC is psyched to see headline campaigns all over Circus CW portfolios this Summer. I count six such campaigns in Sarah’s book alone. “But wait,” you retort. “Just how in demand are good headline writers these days?” To which MC replies, “Congratulations Sarah Anderson on your new job at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco!” Dig it.

Aimee Lehto

Aimee is a copywriter/ACD in Chicago. Her site was submitted by fellow CW Mike Tuton (big ups), and it’s easy to see why. All kids of awesome work for a cool variety of clients like Adidas, Sorel, Tilex, Piperllime and Chipotle. She’s also started a new card company called Brain Surgeons & Rocket Scientists (link below). Love it.

Mark Radcliffe

Mark is a copywriter/ACD in NYC. There’s a killer variety of work on his site for clients ranging from Corona to Mitsubishi to Washington Mutual. But don’t leave without checking out his Personal section. Mark’s also a talented singer/songwriter, voiceover guy and photographer. His blog, Fucked Umbrellas, features pics of broken umbrellas abandoned on the streets of NYC along with captions of what each umbrella’s owner might have been thinking. In Haiku.

John Ennis

John is a student copywriter at Creative Circus who’s about to graduate. (Got a theme going this week.) You have to like a creative who is both confident and self-depricating. Someone who can dress it up and laugh in the mirror. And judging from John’s site (check out his “About I” link), he does both. Look out advertising, here comes John Ennis.

Cameron Van Der Veer – cameronvanderveer.com

Creative Circus Week | Fall 2011 – Nikki Patel

Nikki’s anti-facial hair campaign for Gillette cracks up MC. So does her disclaimer above it: “This campaign does not represent the beliefs or ideals of Nikki S. Patel. Any potential employers that have facial hair should not trash her resumé on account of being insulted. We are sure Nikki S. Patel thinks facial hair looks extremely manly and rugged on you, kind sir/ma’am).” Smart move. Especially if she’s eyeing a shop in Boulder or Minneapolis.

Creative Circus Week | Fall 2011 – David Ma

I remember seeing David’s GRADMEN idea somewhere (created with fellow Circus grads Deanna Director and Mike Quattrocchi), and thinking it was genius. Doesn’t matter if they got Don Draper to speak at their graduation ceremony or not. They got to spend time with 50 working CDs at agencies most CWs would love to land in right out of school. Winner.

Creative Circus Week | Fall 2011 – Sara Steinberg

MC had the opportunity to meet Sara, along with fellow Circus grads Shannon Hollsten and Kristina Spaid, when they were in the Bay Area recently doing agency tours/interviews. Can’t say enough good things about the three of them. Can’t say enough good things about Circus, and how fast they are to respond to opportunities for their students. Tip o’ the hat to Kim Kurtz, Director of Career Services.

Isaac Silverglate

Isaac is a copywriter/ACD at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, previously at Droga5 in NYC. His link was sent in by David Roth (thanks, man) and MC knows why. Because it’s ridiculous awesome. Every once in a while, you click through a CW’s portfolio site and think to yourself, “No way. No way did a client let them do that. No way did a client pay for that.” This is one of those. Start with Combos TV. “What your Mom would feed you if your Mom were a man.” No way.
