Chad Rea

Chad is a freelance copywriter/CD/social brand innovator/entrepreneur in Portland. Before all that, he was a CD at W+K, founder/CD of 86 the onions, and a senior creative at KesselsKramer (Amsterdam), Mother (London), and Pyro (Dallas). Remember Wizard of Oz, when the witch melted? That’s gonna be your brain after about 15 minutes on Chad’s site. I don’t even … I’m not sure if I … but what about … pure awesome.

Mark Cacciatore

Mark is a freelance copywriter/CD in NYC. Before going freelance, he was an ECD, GCD, CD or ACD at oneseven, Saatchi, Y&R, Ammirati, BBDO, and DDB. To go through the work on his site, you first combine two heads representing new school and old school Mark into one mutant creature. Then you grab the mutant creature’s head and slide it down through campaigns that range from classic Cheerios TV to fun interactive banners for Ford.

Lisa Taylor

Lisa is a freelance copywriter in Boston, and was at Arnold before going solo. One of my faves from her site is a simple little game called Toothpick Javelin. Maybe it’s my Italian heritage, a genetic thing, but I couldn’t stop until I got all four toothpicks into the top tray of meatballs. Stupid toothpicks! Then I had to go across the street to Zelo and get a plate of spaghetti for lunch.

Jed Alger

Jed is a freelance copywriter/CD in Portland, after 12-ish years as a CD at Wieden + Kennedy. If you’ve ever thought this would be an easy little blog to run, if you’ve ever thought, “Oh man, that Siciliano guy has it good!” I simply ask you to go browse Jed’s site and tell me which one piece you would choose to feature. Impossible. This is a brilliant portfolio.

Brian Tierney

Brian is a freelance copywriter/CD in Minneapolis. Before going solo he spent time at Fallon (Group CD), CP+B, Carmichael Lynch, and Martin/Williams. Books don’t get much better than this, and I’ll just leave it at that. [Pause] Okay, one more thing. I remember first seeing the above outdoor board with my art director when I was still in SF. We both just freaked out. One of my fave lines EVER. Okay. Done now.

Alan McCoy

Alan is a copywriter at The Integer Group in Dallas. He’s got all kinds of killer clients in his book, but the first is just ridiculous. How does it feel to have a Lamborghini brief land on your desk? One can only hope Alan got to do a little product research.

Nate Gagnon

Nate is a senior copywriter at Proximity BBDO in Chicago. His site is one long horizontal scroll, left to right. Love that. It starts with the words “The more you find interesting, the more you can make interesting.” Love that. I now know what Guacamolito sauce looks like. Love that.

Jennifer Di Giorgi

Jennifer is a copywriter/ACD at Energy BBDO in Chicago. She shares a site with art director/creative partner Krystyn Campbell. They call themselves AdCreatures and they look like a hell of a lot of fun (as well as super talented). Check out Jennifer’s Save The Date postcard, the last piece in Other. Tell me you don’t wish you were at that wedding.

Jessica Vacek

Jessica is a freelance copywriter in Portland, Wieden + Kennedy before that. It’s no secret that I’m a huge Janet Champ fan. So, I do not give out the following compliment lightly. Jessica’s ideas and writing, while completely her own, give me goosebumps in the same way Janet’s do. Her work is honest and beautiful and inspiring and awesome.

Kent Koren

Kent is a freelance copywriter in New York City. He’s done a little of everything, including stand-up at The Laugh Factory, writing for Cartoon Network and Playboy TV’s Naked News, and being a page on Letterman. So, imagine Kent’s brain. Now, imagine Kent’s brain online. Yes, his blog site is a little nuts. Yes, it’s all a little raw. But still, I laughed. Out loud.

Troy Lim

Troy is a copywriter/CD at Ogilvy & Mather Singapore, BBDO and Saatchi before that. His work is amazing. As for his site – there are two, a new site and an old site. It’s really interesting to compare them. Portfolio sites seem to fall into two general camps. One, get out of the way and showcase the work. Two, create a site that’s a piece in itself. Troy’s new site is in the first camp, a clean blog that’s super easy to nav. His old site is in the latter camp, and is both gorgeous and fun to play around on.

Alexandre Scaff

Alexandre is a copywriter at Leo Burnett São Paulo, Y&R and Euro before that. His site is one long blog page and there’s a bunch of video right at the top, so it takes about 10-15 seconds to load. Much of the work is in Portuguese, but even if you don’t speak it, you won’t care once you get into his book. Big ideas translate in any language.

Colin Nissan

Colin is a freelance copywriter in NYC, Goodby before that. There are a couple of not-miss pieces on his site that I must point out and you Must. Not. Miss. Under Internet, check out the HBO short films directed by Sam Mendes. And under Writing, go to McSweeney’s Humor Essays and read “It’s Decorative Gourd Season, Motherfuckers”. It made coffee shoot out my nose.

Mike Tuton

Mike is a senior copywriter at Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners in Sausalito, Cole & Weber before that. Awesome awesome awesome site filled with amazing work. I’m a sucker for the long copy, and Mike’s writing on his US Department of State campaign is just beautiful. Give yourself some time to savor and enjoy this one.

Jake Benjamin

Jake is a copywriter at Goodby in San Francisco, Saatchi NY before that. Good writers have the ability to shed themselves and write in character. Good copywriters have the ability to shed themselves and write in brand. (I just made that up. Deep!) Stepping through Jake’s book, he just nails brand after brand. His Tide campaign is clean. His ASPCA campaign is heartbreaking. His Fruit By The Foot ad is fun. His Hyundai campaign is a Cannes Lions 2009 Titanium Award Winner.
