Ben Tom George

Stance

Ben is a copywriter/ACD at Zambezi in Los Angeles. Check out his site for Stance special edition Star Wars socks—which allowed fans to use the force when shopping without touching their screens. Awesome. Ben also wrote the tagline for Words With Friends, “May the best friend win.” If you’re a WWF junky like MC, that’s tagline rock stardom. But is Ben any good at WWF, you ask?! MC challenged him to a game (actually three), and can confirm: yes. He’s very good.

Dan Hofstadter

paper

Dan is a freelance copywriter/CD in Los Angeles. Over the past 10+ years, he’s worked and freelanced everywhere good: BBDO, Goodby, Leo Burnett, CP+B, 72andSunny, Facebook, EVB, David+Goliath, sheesh. As one might expect, he’s got the portfolio to show for it. Just fantastic. Don’t miss The Great Paper Airplane Project for the Pima Air & Space Museum. Genius.

Tommy Crossen

umbrella

Tommy is a junior copywriter at Marc USA in Chicago. His site currently has three agency projects and the rest is student work, which MC loves to see. (What kind of work did Tommy do as a student? How does that translate to his first agency gig?) Tommy is a graduate of Brainco’s online program, and might just be the first agency copywriter who attended a completely online portfolio school. Interesting!

VCU Brandcenter Week – Michelle Smith

MEAT

VCU Brandcenter Week on MC continues with Michelle Smith. Every once in a while, you see something so brilliant in a portfolio that it stops you in your tracks. Michelle’s Slim Jim car visor meat clips are in that category. They’re the perfect combination of cheap tchotchke, useful everyday tool, in-your-face branding—and they’re just so Slim Jim. Delish.

VCU Brandcenter Week – Stephen Shocket

1460911500544

VCU Brandcenter Week on MC kicks off with Stephen Socket. As usual, MC is blown away by the CW books coming out of VCU—and Stephen’s is a great example of why. He’s got four ad campaigns for Megabus, Timex, Michaels, and Playstation VR. He’s also got a digital magazine and video about ham (above, Ham Manual), an animated short film (that he animated), a product (bottled coffee), and a kids book “Why Is Everyone Murdering Me?” And that doesn’t include his Other Projects page. How do you get better? You make stuff make stuff make stuff.

Chris Mead

Amanda_Bed_Print

Chris is a senior copywriter at Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles, previously at EVB. Since his last post on MC four years ago (03.01.2010, just after graduating from Miami Ad School), he’s been busy. Cool projects on his site for Toyota, Orbit, Skittles (don’t miss Badass Rainbows, so funny), and The Amanda Foundation (above). Way past time for an update.

Sharath Verghese

bluenile

Sharath is a copywriter at Creature in Seattle. Since his last post on MC (11.10.14), he’s added a bunch of new projects to his site including awesomeness for Blue Nile (above) and DoubleDown Casino. If you like cats, don’t miss Sharath’s 15-second pre-roll spot “Kitty Glitter” for DoubleDown. Slow-motion falling cats … with diamonds.

Amanda Caldari

birthday_girl_1

Amanda is a copywriter at Rokkan in NYC. (Her site was submitted by Jeff Samson, CD at Rokkan, big ups!) Love her campaign for Birthday Wishes (above)—a non-profit that throws birthday parties for homeless kids. So good. And don’t miss her Eyeconic campaign featuring real paid actors as testimonial spokespeople. Imagine!

Alex Basak & Tara Iannotti

subway

Alex (writer) and Tara (art director) are a creative team at 360i in NYC. Check out the animated series “How to Turn a Meeting into Eating” they made for the new Subway (above, featured on both of their sites), for which they did everything but the animation—including performing and recording the music, doing the voiceover, etc. Love that.

Nick Elliott

pparenthood

Nick is a freelance senior copywriter/ACD in New York City. Before copywriting, he was in book publishing and online journalism (Chronicle Books, Thrillist, etc.), which is fabulous experience/training for the ad/marketing world. Lots of cool projects on his site for Uniqlo, Mercedes-Benz and others. Don’t miss DefundRefund—his side project funding Planned Parenthood in honor of the GOP politicians vowing to defund it.

Emma Shannon

emma

Emma is a senior copywriter/ACD at beauty@gotham, McCann Worldgroup in NYC. She has helped kill not one, but two of the most famous taglines in the history of modern advertising. She helped put “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline” to bed for “Make It Happen.” Same with Wisk’s “Ring Around The Collar” for “Fight Stains with Science.” What’s #3 going to be???

Jeff Gorman

Jeff is a freelance copywriter/director/CD in Los Angeles. (Yes, this is Jeff Gorman of Johns+Gorman Films.) His site is a library of one “that was one of my favorite commercials ever” after another. His client page lists out the following: “Nike, LA Eyeworks, Pioneer Electronics, Moulinex, Independent Life, ABC, Little Caesars Pizza, Staples, Lexus, Kia, Bud Light (one of which was the USA TODAY’s #1 spot in the ’04 Super Bowl), American Express, Truth Anti-Smoking, Sprint, Capital One, Fox Sports, ESPN, Geico, Sony Playstation, Sprite, Holiday Inn, Toyota, Jeep, Coke, Boars Head, Mercedes, Haggar, Burger King, McDonalds, Stanley Tools, National Car Rental, Energizer, Lays, Ikea, Sealy, NFL, Best Buy, KFC, Bell South, Coors Light, Jiffy Lube, 7-Up, Alaska Airlines, to name a few. He also directed the pioneering campaign for Sunkist California Pistachios which initiated the Mocumentary style which became an industry-wide trend.”

Good grief. Top off a glass of whatever you’re drinking, kick back and enjoy this one. Good times.
